Dr. Sharon Deem

About

Dr. Deem is the Director of the Saint Louis Zoo Institute for Conservation Medicine (ICM). The ICM takes a holistic approach to wildlife conservation, public health, and sustainable ecosystems to ensure healthy animals and healthy people. In addition to global Conservation Medicine research projects—including her work in Forest Park, Saint Louis, Missouri—Dr. Deem helps train the next generation of One Health practitioners, through a semester One Health course at Washington University in St. Louis, the 2019 textbook she co-authored, “Introduction to One Health: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Planetary Health,” TEDx and other YouTube available talks, and by mentoring interns, externs, preceptors, graduate students, and post-docs at the Saint Louis Zoo.
